Xlinks and its consultants planned detailed technical and environmental marine survey campaigns and permitting across the five maritime jurisdictions crossed by the proposed 3,980–4,000 km HVDC cable route ahead of the installation campaign targeted for the early 2030s. These prospective surveys were intended to confirm final routing, identify areas requiring mitigation (fishing, anchorage, protected sites), inform trenching/burial decisions, and secure statutory permits and consents required prior to cable lay operations.
