The White Cross floating offshore wind project is currently targeting full commercial operations in 2029. In an interview in reNews’ Global Offshore Wind Report 2025, project director Chris Pearson explains that developers Flotation Energy and Cobra plan to reach final investment decision (FID) within the next 12 to 18 months and then progress the 100MW scheme through construction to achieve full commercial operation in 2029. White Cross, located off south-west England, secured a marine licence for its up to eight-turbine, 100MW array in July, which Pearson describes as putting the project in a “very solid place” as it prepares to compete in the UK’s AR7 allocation round for revenue support. This licensing milestone underpins the timetable leading toward the 2029 operational target. A separate project profile from GlobalData, published via Power Technology and updated in October 2024, corroborates this schedule by stating that construction of the 100MW White Cross Floating Project in the Celtic Sea is expected to commence in 2025 and that the project is then “expected to enter into commercial operation in 2029.” The profile notes the project will comprise six floating turbines over a 50km² area and is jointly owned by Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios and Flotation Energy, each holding 50%. Together, these sources consistently present 2029 as the planned year for White Cross to begin full commercial operations at its intended capacity.
