Fugro conducted a marine geophysical survey campaign in support of the Western Link 2 HVDC interconnector. The work commenced on 2025-08-14 in the nearshore Caernarfon Bay area and was scheduled to continue through mid-October 2025, operating from the survey vessel Fugro Valkyrie. Fugro acquired high-resolution seabed mapping and shallow sub‑bottom data (multibeam, side-scan and related geophysical acquisition) to characterise seabed morphology and identify hazards for cable routing and installation planning. The dataset was intended to inform route engineering, environmental assessments and subsequent site‑characterisation activities for the project owners (ScottishPower Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission).
