National Grid (in partnership with SP Energy Networks) planned a non-statutory public consultation in 2026 on the emerging Western Link 2 proposals. The consultation was intended to introduce the project to local communities, gather feedback to shape designs, and inform the environmental and technical assessments ahead of a formal planning submission. The proposals covered an HVDC offshore link routing from Scottish waters to a proposed converter station in Ayrshire and a landfall and connection near Pentir in Gwynedd, Wales, with the route passing through Scottish, Northern Irish, Isle of Man and Welsh waters. The consultation formed part of the project’s pre-application engagement while the scheme remained in early design stage.[1]
