Public Consultation

On 12 November 2024, Marine Scotland published a document titled “Public Notice - Additional Information - West of Orkney Wind Farm” on its marine licensing portal for the West of Orkney Windfarm. The entry appears under the Application stage for renewables – wind, alongside the project’s offshore Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) materials and marine licence applications. This public notice is specifically flagged as “Additional Information,” indicating that further offshore EIA or supporting material had been submitted for the project and formally advertised to the public in line with statutory procedures for marine licensing and Section 36 electricity consents. By posting this notice, Marine Scotland invited interested parties to review the new material associated with the offshore generating station and transmission infrastructure located west of Hoy, Orkney. The same Marine Scotland page shows that an “Offshore Environmental Impact Assessment Report - Additional Information” for the West of Orkney Windfarm was submitted on 18 October 2024, with the public notice following in November 2024. It also lists subsequent “Representations – Additional Information Consultation – West of Orkney Windfarm” documents, demonstrating that comments and representations were later received and logged as part of this additional-information consultation exercise. Together, these records show that the 12 November 2024 public notice marked the formal opening of a targeted consultation round on updated offshore application materials, forming an intermediate but important procedural step on the path to the later determinations and decision notices for the project recorded on the same portal in mid-2025.
