As part of the UK Crown Estate’s Round 2 offshore leasing programme, the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind project area was awarded in 2003 to Morecambe Wind Ltd, a consortium of Elsam, Eurus Energy and ScottishPower, giving it development rights for the site in the East Irish Sea.
