In 2011, ScottishPower Renewables and DONG Energy (now Ørsted) took the final investment decision for the 389 MW West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm in the East Irish Sea, enabling full-scale construction to proceed. Around this time the partners signed a turbine supply and five‑year maintenance agreement with Siemens for 108 x 3.6 MW turbines and confirmed a total project cost, including offshore transmission assets, of about £1.6 billion, with onshore construction scheduled to start in early 2012.
