The West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm, a 389 MW project comprising 108 Siemens 3.6 MW turbines located about 14 km off Walney Island in the East Irish Sea, became fully operational in October 2014. Developed jointly by ScottishPower Renewables and Ørsted (formerly DONG Energy), the project was officially inaugurated that month after offshore works that began in 2013, including installation of foundations, turbines, export and array cables, and the offshore substation, enabling full commercial power export to the UK grid via Heysham, Lancashire.
