Offshore export system comprising 2 x ~41 km 170 kV three-core subsea cables plus associated onshore 170 kV and 420 kV underground cables forming the West of Duddon Sands grid connection.
NKT Cables A/S held the main construction-phase cable supply contract for the West of Duddon Sands Transmission Assets. Under an approximately €80 million agreement with DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables, NKT manufactured and supplied the two 170 kV three-core subsea export cables linking the offshore substation platform to shore, as well as the associated 170 kV and 420 kV underground onshore export cables connecting to the National Grid at Heysham. In total this covered around 82 km of subsea export cable and approximately 19.5 km of underground high-voltage cable, forming the complete HVAC export system that was later transferred to WoDS Transmission plc under the UK OFTO regime.
