By the time of Fichtner’s ex-ante technical investigation for Ofgem, Visser & Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) had been contracted as the export cable installation contractor for the West of Duddon Sands transmission assets, responsible for laying and burying the two 155 kV submarine export cables along the approximately 41 km route between the offshore substation and the onshore transition joint bays near Heysham, including sections that cross existing Barrow and Walney 2 export cables and pipelines.
