On 18 July 2011, NKT Cables signed a contract with DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables to supply the high-voltage export cable system for the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind project, comprising around 82 km of 155 kV subsea export cables with integrated 48-core optical fibres and 22 km of 155 kV land cables, together with delivery and installation of 155 kV accessories for both the offshore and onshore sections; these cables form the two export circuits that connect the offshore substation to landfall near Heysham and onward into the onshore transmission system that is later transferred to the WoDS OFTO.
