Waterkant is a developer-scale offshore wind farm project on BSH site N-6.7 in the German North Sea, located roughly 90 km north of the island of Borkum and sized at roughly 270–296 MW depending on published sources. Awarded in the central pre‑investigated auction (summer 2023), the project is be...

Luxcara announced on 25 August 2025 that it had reserved 19 Siemens Gamesa 15.5 MW (SG 14-236 with power boost) turbines for the Waterkant offshore wind farm on BSH site N-6.7 in the German North Sea. The reservation runs in parallel with Luxcara's 97-turbine reservation of the same machine class for the adjacent Waterekke project and is conditional on synergy assessment with that larger neighbouring development. The SGRE reservation supersedes the July 2024 Ming Yang preferred-supplier agreement (16 × up-to-18.5 MW), which Luxcara and Ming Yang mutually terminated on 25-26 August 2025; Luxcara cited fleet-standardisation with Waterekke as the primary technical reason while geopolitical scrutiny of Chinese turbine supply in Germany and the EU also formed a backdrop. The turbine change has been raised with the relevant approval authorities and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Final firm contract not yet signed.
Luxcara signed an inter-array cable supply contract with Dutch manufacturer TKF (BV Twentsche Kabelfabriek) for the 296 MW Waterkant offshore wind project on site N-6.7 in the German EEZ. TKF will engineer, manufacture, test, and deliver 130 km of 66 kV aluminium-core inter-array cables and accessories, which will be produced at its carbon-neutral factory in Eemshaven to connect the Waterkant offshore installations to Amprion’s converter platform ahead of the planned 2028 grid connection.

Luxcara signed a contract with Norwegian company Havfram for the charter of one of its advanced wind turbine installation vessels to transport and install 16 planned 18.5 MW turbines at the Waterkant offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. Under the agreement, Havfram will execute turbine transport and installation works in spring 2028 at the approximately 270 MW site located about 90 km off the island of Borkum.
Luxcara awarded Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore (a VINCI Energies business unit) a technical planning contract for the Waterkant offshore wind farm, a 270+ MW project around 90 kilometres off Borkum. Omexom will act as technical consultant in the coming years, supporting and coordinating project planning and development, initially focusing on the approval steps for constructing the wind farm and on preparing tenders for the main work packages ahead of the planned 2028 commissioning.
Waterkant Energy GmbH, backed by Luxcara, was awarded the rights in the German offshore wind auction to develop the Waterkant offshore wind farm of around 270–300 MW on centrally pre-investigated site N-6.7 in the German Exclusive Economic Zone, approximately 90 km off the island of Borkum, in an auction that for the first time also assessed social and environmental criteria.
By August 2023, comprehensive geotechnical investigations on the centrally pre-investigated offshore site N-6.7, where Luxcara’s Waterkant project will be built about 90 km off Borkum in the German North Sea, had already been completed, providing subsurface data to support design and enabling the project to target grid connection from 2028.
By August 2023, comprehensive environmental investigations on the N-6.7 offshore site in the German Exclusive Economic Zone, planned for Luxcara’s Waterkant wind farm about 90 km from Borkum, had been completed as part of the site’s pre-investigation milestones, supporting permitting and enabling a potential grid connection as early as 2028.
