On 7 November 2014, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change granted the Development Consent Order for the Walney Extension offshore wind farm, authorising construction of an up to 750 MW extension northwest of the existing Walney wind farm, including turbines, offshore and onshore substations, array cables and export cable to a new onshore substation near Middleton, Lancashire.
