Van Oord began the Walney Extension foundation campaign in mid-November 2016 with the load-out in Rostock of the first six monopile foundations, ahead of transporting and installing a total of 87 monopiles and associated scour protection in the Irish Sea site 19km off Walney Island, Cumbria. The works were carried out using the offshore installation vessel Aeolus and heavy lift vessel Svanen under contract to DONG Energy.
