DeepOcean’s scope includes route engineering as well as the installation and trenching of a total of 136 km offshore export cables and a 23 km interlink cable. The cables will be pulled ashore near Heysham and will link the two offshore sub station platforms at the windfarm. WOW03 and WOW04 will consist of 2 x 220kV independent electrical systems each with their own offshore sub stations.
DeepOcean carried out the construction-phase offshore cable installation for the Walney Extension export transmission system, which now forms the Walney Extension OFTO assets. Under a contract from DONG Energy AS, DeepOcean was responsible for route engineering and for the installation, pull‑in and trenching of approximately 136 km of offshore export cables connecting the two Walney Extension offshore substations to landfall near Heysham, plus a 23 km subsea interlink cable connecting the two offshore substation platforms. The work was to be executed using the cable lay vessel Maersk Connector and the installation and trenching vessel Havila Phoenix, with offshore operations planned to start in early 2017.
