Visser & Smit Hanab was appointed by DONG Energy to carry out a high-level technical assessment of the 220 kV export cable landfalls for the Walney Extension offshore wind farm transmission system, focusing on installing the export cables by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) south of Heysham, Lancashire. The Landfall HDD Technical Assessment report, issued with revision date 11 December 2013, evaluated HDD profiles, soil conditions, site constraints, and access requirements following a site visit on 14 November 2013, providing engineering input for the routing and shore-crossing design of the Walney Extension export cables that later formed part of the OFTO assets.
