Installation of the Walney 2 export cable began on 8 May 2011 when the cable barge Stemat Spirit beached off Cleveleys near Blackpool at low tide and started pulling the 132 kV three-core submarine cable from its spool towards the offshore substation, marking the start of laying the 29 km offshore section of the export link.
