Single 132 kV HVAC export cable system (approx. 43 km subsea and 5 km onshore) connecting the Walney II offshore substation to landfall near Fleetwood and onward to the Stanah 132 kV substation.
Prysmian was awarded an €18 million construction-phase contract by DONG Energy to deliver the complete 132 kV export cable system for the Walney II offshore wind farm, whose transmission assets were later transferred into the Walney 2 OFTO. The scope covered design and manufacture of the HVAC submarine export cable and associated land cable system linking the offshore substation to shore near Fleetwood and on to the Stanah 132 kV substation. Submarine cables were produced at Prysmian’s Arco Felice facility in Italy and the land cables at Wrexham in Great Britain. Following installation delays with the original marine contractor, Prysmian was subsequently engaged to lay and joint the final one‑third of the export cable route from the offshore substation, completing the connection that underpins the Walney 2 offshore transmission system.
