By 19 May 2011, technical installation works at the Walney 2 onshore substation at Cleveleys near Blackpool had begun, with civil works reported as almost complete. Around 35 workers were active on site to complete the onshore substation in time to receive power from the Walney 2 offshore wind farm, as part of the 132 kV export connection that later formed the Walney 2 transmission assets.
