On 7 November 2007, the UK Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) issued a Section 36 consent under the Electricity Act 1989 for the Walney Offshore Windfarm, covering wind turbines, inter-array cables, export cables and offshore substations, thereby granting the main planning consent required for construction and operation of the project’s offshore generation and transmission assets, including those later transferred as the Walney 1 OFTO transmission system.
