In March 2017, following approval from the Danish Energy Agency, DONG Energy (now Ørsted) commenced decommissioning of the Vindeby Offshore Wind Farm near Lolland, mobilising contractors to start dismantling the 11 turbines using a jack-up vessel and mobile crane to remove blades, nacelles and towers individually ahead of foundation and cable removal. This marked the transition of the 4.95 MW demonstration project from more than 25 years of operation into active dismantling and site clearance works.
