Decommissioning of the Vindeby Offshore Wind Farm was completed on 7 September 2017, with all 11 turbines, gravity-based foundations and subsea cables removed and shipped to Nyborg Harbour, where components were directed to reuse and recycling streams, including research use of blades at DTU Risø and preservation of one turbine for exhibition at the Danish Museum of Energy. The work, carried out in shallow Baltic Sea waters by DONG Energy and its contractors, concluded the full removal of the world’s first offshore wind farm after more than 25 years of operation.
