JAO (Joint Allocation Office) operated the Single Allocation Platform (SAP) used for explicit auctions of long-term physical transmission rights (capacity) on the Viking Link interconnector between Great Britain and Denmark. Through this platform, market participants could buy long-term capacity products for cross-border trading on Viking Link. The SAP role covered the commercial allocation process for long-term capacity: customers acquired transmission rights via explicit auctions and, after purchase, could either nominate the capacity via the Regional Nomination Platform (RNP) as physical users or choose not to nominate and instead receive Use-It-or-Sell-It (UIoSI) compensation by releasing capacity into the day-ahead market process. This positioned JAO as the appointed allocation-platform operator enabling access to long-term explicit products for the interconnector. This service related to the operational phase of Viking Link once capacity products were made available to customers, supporting market access to the interconnector’s 1,400 MW transfer capability and facilitating cross-border electricity trading between the GB and Danish markets.
