By May 2020, cable supplier Prysmian completed key commissioning tests on its first high-voltage direct-current cable for the Viking Link interconnector. Working from its Arco Felice manufacturing facility in Italy, Prysmian reported that factory acceptance tests (FAT) on the initial cable length had been successfully conducted. FATs verify that the manufactured cable meets all specified electrical and mechanical performance requirements before it is released for shipment and installation. Given the project’s tight schedule and the criticality of cable reliability for the 475-mile UK–Denmark HVDC link, this successful testing milestone was highlighted by Prysmian’s project director as essential to avoiding downstream delays and keeping Viking Link’s delivery on track.
