Onshore construction works for Viking Link in the UK commenced in July 2020. National Grid Ventures and project contractors (including Siemens Energy and civil works partner Balfour Beatty) mobilised to start building the converter station and associated onshore civils around the Bicker Fen / Lincolnshire area, establishing temporary construction villages and site power arrangements. The onshore scope included access roads, compound works and the onshore cable civil installations that enabled subsequent HV cable jointing and testing.
