The Viking Link project was awarded EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) grant funding on 15 July 2016 to co‑fund final development costs. The grant supported the project’s development phase; construction financing remained the responsibility of the joint developers (National Grid and Energinet). The CEF selection was cited by the project partners as material support for progressing route, consenting and procurement work ahead of FID.
