Veja Mate Offshore Wind Farm achieved its first power milestone in January 2017. Eighteen months after financial close, the first Siemens 6 MW turbine began supplying electricity to the German grid, two months ahead of the original schedule. The 402 MW project, located about 95 km northwest of Borkum in the German Bight of the North Sea, exports power via its own offshore substation through the BorWin Beta HVDC system to the onshore converter station at Diele, Germany. Turbines are loaded out at the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark and installed offshore by Siemens using the jack-up vessels Fred. Olsen’s Bold Tern and Seajacks’ Scylla. This milestone marked the start of renewable power export from the first of 67 Siemens SWT‑6.0‑154 turbines that collectively form the Veja Mate wind farm.
