In March 2025, the Ministry of Energy sent a letter to Statnett clarifying that only one of the three 500 MW Utsira Nord project areas would receive state aid and instructing the TSO to indicate an onshore connection point and reserve capacity for 500 MW of offshore wind. Based on this guidance, Statnett concluded that the assumptions for a coordinated 1,000–1,500 MW grid solution were no longer valid and therefore terminated further studies of a shared landing solution from Utsira Nord.
