On 29 March 2023, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy formally announced a competition for floating offshore wind at Utsira Nord and issued tender documents that, among other things, clarified that the Utsira Nord and Sørlige Nordsjø II projects must connect to the Norwegian mainland via production radials that developers must plan, build, finance and own. The documents also set out that Statnett would designate potential onshore connection points and assess coordinated versus distributed AC grid solutions for Utsira Nord, shaping future grid access for all three 500 MW project areas.
