Tyrrhenian Link is a +/-500 kV HVDC bipole interconnector of about 970 km total route length, comprising subsea and underground cables linking Sicily, Sardinia and Campania.
Prysmian Group was awarded a framework contract worth around €1.71 billion by Terna Rete Italia S.p.A. to deliver the main cable system for the Tyrrhenian Link HVDC interconnector between Sicily, Sardinia and Campania. The contract covers the development and construction phase, including design, manufacture, submarine and land installation, and commissioning of more than 1,500 km of 500 kV HVDC mass‑impregnated submarine cables, together with associated land cables, an electrode system and fiber‑optic monitoring. Submarine and onshore power cables are to be produced at Prysmian’s Arco Felice plant near Naples, with offshore installation largely performed by the cable‑lay vessel Leonardo da Vinci. Within this overall scope, Prysmian is inferred to supply roughly 1,000 km of subsea interconnector cable, with Nexans providing the remaining share. The project strengthens Italy’s grid and supports renewable integration in the central Mediterranean.
