Tyrrhenian Link is a +/-500 kV HVDC bipole interconnector of about 970 km total route length, comprising subsea and underground cables linking Sicily, Sardinia and Campania.
Nexans secured a frame contract worth more than €650 million from Terna S.p.A. to supply part of the submarine cable system for Italy’s Tyrrhenian Link interconnector. Under this construction‑phase contract, Nexans will manufacture and install 500 km of 500 kV HVDC mass‑impregnated subsea power cable and associated fiber‑optic cable for the link between Sicily, Sardinia and the Italian mainland. The cables will be produced at Nexans’ Halden plant in Norway and installed in ultra‑deep waters of more than 2,000 m using the cable‑laying vessel Nexans Aurora, which has already demonstrated record‑breaking installation capabilities. Nexans’ share of the scope represents a substantial portion of the total subsea interconnector cable system and contributes to increasing transfer capacity and renewable integration across the Italian grid.
