In 2022, following the award of a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the UK government’s fourth allocation round at a strike price of GBP 87.30/MWh, Hexicon advanced the development of its 32 MW TwinHub floating wind project in the UK by appointing London Marine Consultants as Principal Designer. The appointment is explicitly linked to the same year as the CfD success, indicating that Hexicon moved quickly from revenue support confirmation into more detailed project definition and technical preparation. As Principal Designer, London Marine Consultants was selected to take a leading design role for the floating project, which is structured around Hexicon’s floating wind technology. This procurement decision formed part of a broader package of 2022 development actions for TwinHub. In the same year, Hexicon started offshore site investigations and also named Mingyang Smart Energy as the preferred turbine supplier for the project, signalling that key technical and supply-chain positions were being put in place in parallel. The selection of London Marine Consultants as Principal Designer therefore marked a significant step in formalising the project’s design responsibilities and supported the progression of TwinHub from concept and revenue award into a more advanced development and engineering phase, even though the project has since encountered financial challenges and is now subject to impairment and divestment efforts.
