In a presentation on the TuNur solar export project held in Berlin on 26 May 2011, Nur Energie stated that it had already identified a site in Tunisia for a proposed 2,000 MW solar power plant. This plant would form the generation hub at the Tunisian end of the TuNur scheme, which is designed to export solar electricity to Europe via a high‑voltage interconnection to Italy. Alongside selecting the site, Nur Energie reported that it had carried out supporting studies covering environmental impact, desertification, geotechnical conditions, and water availability, working with local and international specialist consultants. This confirmed that a specific desert location had been chosen as the basis for progressing the TuNur development.
