By May 2011, Nur Energie had completed early environmental and site-constraint assessment work for its planned 2,000 MW TuNur solar power plant in Tunisia, which underpins the TuNur Phase 2 export/interconnector concept. In a company presentation dated May 2011, Nur Energie states that it had already identified a site for the 2,000 MW plant and carried out studies on environmental impact, desertification, geotechnics and water availability. These studies, undertaken with local and international specialist consultants including DLR and Comete Engineering, indicate that key environmental and resource constraints at the proposed desert site had been mapped and evaluated at an early development stage.
