On 31 July 2017, TuNur Limited submitted a request for authorisation to the Tunisian Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy for its 4.5 GW TuNur solar export project, which includes a large CSP complex near Réjim Maâtoug in southwest Tunisia and dedicated HVDC transmission to export power to Europe, including the first 250 MW phase delivering electricity via submarine cable to Malta. The application seeks government approval for the overall solar export scheme so it can supply carbon-free electricity to the European market and support economic development in Tunisia.
