Onshore construction for the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm was successfully completed in October 2021, marking the culmination of a multi‑year programme to build out the project’s onshore infrastructure. According to RWE’s project information, onshore construction had begun in September 2018, shortly after the project reached Financial Close at the end of August 2018. This followed earlier development milestones, including securing a Contract for Difference (CfD) from the UK Government in September 2017, consent for the onshore electrical system in September 2016, and consent for the offshore array in July 2013. RWE managed the overall construction phase on behalf of the partnership and is responsible for operating and maintaining the wind farm. The successful completion of onshore construction in October 2021 represented a key transition point from heavy civil works to system commissioning and final integration. With the onshore electrical system in place, the project could fully support ongoing offshore activities, which had commenced in January 2020, and the subsequent turbine commissioning campaign, which was completed in January 2022. RWE notes that overall commissioning of Triton Knoll was completed in 2022, enabling the 857 MW Round 2 project to move into operational status. The October 2021 onshore completion milestone therefore underpinned the final stages of construction and was critical to delivering reliable export capability and preparing the wind farm for long‑term operation from RWE’s Grimsby Hub facility.
