GlobalConnect has officially begun work on a new subsea fibre-optic cable linking Sweden and Finland via Åland, as part of a USD 14 million infrastructure investment. The project will add a 150 km subsea segment and 365 km of upgraded terrestrial fibre between Helsinki, Turku, Åland, Stockholm and Gävle, aiming to significantly increase data capacity and redundancy in response to growing regional demand and geopolitical concerns, with completion targeted by the end of 2026.
