DELAYED +11mo (Apr 2026): Original projection assumed COD around 2026-01-01. A GlobalConnect press release dated 2025-07-03 states the Sweden–Finland via Åland subsea fibre project is "set for completion by the end of 2026" and the new subsea cable is scheduled to go live by the end of 2026, with surveys in H1 2025 and main works in 2026. This makes an early-2026 COD unrealistic; adjusting to end-2026 in line with the developer’s stated go-live timing, treated as approximate and still somewhat optimistic. --- GlobalConnect plans to complete its new subsea fibre-optic cable linking Sweden and Finland via Åland, together with approximately 365 km of upgraded terrestrial fibre routes between Helsinki, Turku, Åland, Stockholm and Gävle, by the end of 2026. Once operational, the 150 km subsea system and associated onshore reinforcements are expected to quadruple GlobalConnect’s data transmission capacity between Sweden and Finland and significantly enhance regional redundancy and resilience.
