During the first phase of statutory pre-application consultation for the Stromar Floating Offshore Wind Farm in November 2024, the project team presented a set of refined siting proposals for key onshore and nearshore infrastructure. Consultation materials explain that Stromar is now seeking feedback on a refined onshore cable route corridor, reflecting a considerable reduction in corridor size since earlier stages and incorporating community and stakeholder input. This refined corridor defines where the buried cables linking the offshore wind farm to the onshore grid connection at Greens, Aberdeenshire, are now proposed to be located. Alongside the corridor, the project has identified a selection of preferred landfall sites between Fraserburgh and Rosehearty, where the offshore export cables are expected to come ashore, and a selection of preferred sites for the onshore substation near the SSEN Greens substation. The materials also highlight further siting refinements, including the proposed location for a reactive compensation station and a refined offshore cable route connecting the offshore substations to the north Aberdeenshire coast. These preferred and refined locations mark a transition from broad scoping areas shown at earlier information days in March 2024 to more defined siting choices, shaped by engagement with local communities, landowners, Aberdeenshire Council and NatureScot. The November 2024 consultation invites public feedback on these siting proposals before they are taken forward into subsequent design iterations and formal planning and marine licence applications.
