Storgrundet Export is the planned high-voltage export transmission for the Storgrundet Offshore wind farm (Skyborn Renewables) located ~15 km off the coast of Gävleborg County (Gävle/Söderhamn), Sweden. The export system is being developed to transmit roughly 1,020 MW of offshore generation (the ...
By June 2024, NIRAS had started environmental survey work for the Storgrundet grid connection, carrying out studies of marine biology and potential contaminants in the sediments along the planned cable corridor. These surveys, undertaken for Skyborn Renewables, provide input to the environmental impact assessment for connecting the Storgrundet Offshore wind farm to both the Swedish national transmission grid and the SoutH2port hydrogen project in Vallvik, Söderhamn Municipality.
In 2013, project developer WPD reached the stage in the Storgrundet project where it submitted an application for permission to build the offshore transmission cable, seeking regulatory approval to construct the export connection from the wind farm to the onshore grid after a permitting process that had begun in 2006.
During the permitting phase for the Storgrundet project, WPD Offshore (now Skyborn Renewables) began developing the grid connection concept for Storgrundet by entering negotiations with a grid owner and local operators to share ownership of the grid connection infrastructure and by lobbying the Swedish TSO Svenska Kraftnät to take a leading role in designing offshore grid connections. These activities related specifically to planning the export cable and associated offshore grid connection rather than turbine or foundation supply.
