By November 2024, EirGrid, as transmission system operator, had submitted an application to the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) for a Maritime Usage Licence (MUL) to enable marine survey activities for the Powering Up Offshore – South Coast 900 MW offshore transmission project. The MUL application covers offshore and coastal surveys needed to identify suitable landfall locations and grid connection zones for bringing offshore wind power from Area A (Tonn Nua) on Ireland’s south coast into the national grid.
