In July 2025, following approval of its Maritime Usage Licence, EirGrid began the first phase of marine and coastal surveys for the Powering Up Offshore – South Coast transmission project, launching extensive geophysical investigations along potential cable route corridor options from Maritime Area A (Tonn Nua) within the South Coast DMAP. Fugro is leading this geophysical campaign under EirGrid’s Offshore Marine Survey Framework, supported by TechWorks Marine and Green Rebel, to inform the design and routing of the offshore transmission infrastructure.
