The total length of the Kefalonia – Zakynthos electrical interconnection will be 20.4 km and that of Lefkada – Zakynthos will be 14.8 km.
Hellenic Cables, the cables segment of Cenergy Holdings, was awarded a turnkey contract by the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) to design, manufacture and install 150 kV XLPE submarine and underground cable systems upgrading the Ionian islands’ 150 kV network. The scope covers approximately 38 km of submarine and land cables for the Kefalonia–Zakynthos and Lefkada–Cephalonia interconnections, including the South Ionian Interconnection: Lefkada–Cephalonia, which has a route length of about 14.8 km. Submarine cables are produced at Hellenic Cables’ Corinth plant and the land cables at its Thiva facility. The contract, valued at about €99.8 million plus VAT, includes cable design, supply, installation, protection and commissioning, with construction scheduled to complete by 2026, replacing ageing links and significantly improving the reliability and capacity of power transmission to the Ionian islands.
