Severfield was sub-contracted by main civils contractor Kier Infrastructure to design, fabricate, treat and assemble the structural steel frames for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm onshore converter station (OCS) at the Wilton Complex near Lackenby, Teesside. Scope totalled approximately 470 tonnes of structural steel and also covered cladding support systems, metal decking and site paint touch-up work. The works were delivered in two phases: erection of primary steelwork to allow Kier's civil teams to pour floor slabs, followed by secondary steelwork installation once the concrete had cured. Primary fabrication was carried out at Severfield's Dalton facility in North Yorkshire (36 miles from site) and at the Bolton workshop, with local erection contractor Braddan Structures performing on-site assembly. The OCS houses the GE Grid Solutions valve halls and ancillary plant for the ±320 kV / 1,320 MW HVDC transmission link from the Sofia array on Dogger Bank.
