Description
Prysmian was selected to manufacture the new 35 kV submarine power cable for Elektrilevi’s Soela Strait replacement project linking Pammana on Saaremaa with Emmaste on Hiiumaa. The cable, produced at Prysmian’s factory in Finland, comprises a single continuous 6 km length without intermediate joints to improve reliability. After manufacture the cable was loaded onto a specialised marine vessel for transport to the Soela Strait, where it was to be laid along the prepared seabed route by the installation contractors. Prysmian’s scope covered production and supply of the higher‑capacity HVAC submarine cable that, together with the existing 2009 cable, will secure Hiiumaa’s connection to the Estonian grid.
