"To enable electrification of the Sleipner field, a 28-km high voltage cable must be laid between Gina Krog and Sleipner... The contract for production and laying of cables has been awarded to the cable supplier NKT."
Equinor, on behalf of the Sleipner partnership, awarded NKT a turnkey contract in June 2020 to deliver the subsea power cable system that enables partial electrification of the Sleipner field centre and, via the existing Sleipner–Gudrun link, the Gudrun platform. NKT’s scope covered engineering and system design, manufacture, transport, offshore installation and commissioning of a 110 kV HVAC subsea power cable approximately 28 km long between the Gina Krog platform and Sleipner. This inter‑platform cable connects Sleipner into the Johan Sverdrup–based Utsira High power‑from‑shore system, allowing Sleipner and its tie‑in fields, including Gudrun, to receive low‑emission electricity from shore. The cables were produced at NKT’s Karlskrona factory and installed offshore using the cable‑laying vessel NKT Victoria as part of the wider Utsira High electrification campaign. The role spans development (system and cable design) and construction (manufacture, laying, jointing and commissioning) phases of the Sleipner/Gudrun electrification project.
