Land HVDC cable system for Skagerrak 4 between Bulbjerg and Tjele, forming part of the 240 km, 500 kV monopole HVDC interconnector between Norway and Denmark.
Prysmian Group was awarded a land HVDC cable system contract for the Skagerrak 4 interconnector by the Danish transmission system operator Energinet.dk in January 2011. The scope covered the construction-phase supply, jointing, and testing of approximately 92 km of 500 kV mass‑impregnated underground DC cable and associated accessories on the Danish side, forming the onshore section between the Bulbjerg landfall and the Tjele converter station. The cables were manufactured at Prysmian’s Arco Felice facility in Italy and installed and commissioned to provide part of the 700 MW, 500 kV monopole HVDC link between Denmark and Norway. This contract, valued at about €40 million, delivered the majority of the onshore DC cable length in Denmark and formed an integral part of the full 240 km Skagerrak 4 cable solution.
