On 21 December 2011, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed loan financing for the Skagerrak 4 Interconnector project promoted by Statnett SF. The EIB project page records total signatures of EUR 200 million, split as EUR 100 million for Norway and EUR 100 million for Denmark, with project status shown as "Signed". This capital support helps fund implementation of a monopolar high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link between Kristiansand in Norway and Tjele in Denmark, comprising two terminal converter stations, about 140 km of undersea cable and 102 km of land cable, to increase transmission capacity and electricity trade between the Norwegian and continental European markets.
