"In 1993, the interconnector was upgraded with Nexans delivering a third cable (SK 3), operating at 350 kV, to provide an additional 500 MW capacity." Skagerrak 1–3 has a total length of 240 km, comprising 113 km overhead line and 127 km underwater cable.
In 1993, Nexans supplied the third high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable for the Skagerrak interconnector, known as Skagerrak 3, between Kristiansand in Norway and Tjele in Denmark. This upgrade added a 350 kV monopolar cable with around 440–500 MW of transfer capacity, raising the overall capacity of the Skagerrak 1–3 scheme to approximately 1,050 MW. The new Skagerrak 3 cable followed Nexans’ earlier deployment of the first two Skagerrak subsea cables in the 1970s and used the same subsea corridor across the Skagerrak strait. The role covered manufacture and delivery of about 127 km of subsea HVDC interconnector cable, forming the submarine portion of the 240 km link.
