In July 2014, ABB completed a major maintenance and upgrade campaign on the Skagerrak 3 HVDC interconnector between Norway and Denmark. The company commissioned an upgraded control and protection system for the Skagerrak 3 link, enhancing the safety and operational performance of the interconnector. According to ABB, the installation and commissioning were executed within a four‑week window in order to minimise the outage time of the operational link. The work formed part of ABB’s broader lifecycle support for the Skagerrak HVDC system and included integration with the bipolar configuration shared by Skagerrak 3 and the then‑under‑construction Skagerrak 4 link.
